BDS Semester Wise Examinations with Internship from 2008-09 batch – DCI Announcement

August 26, 2011 By Dr. Chetan 8 Comments

dci indiaAfter the recent news of the Re-introduction of Internship from the batches of 2008-09, the Dental Council of India has announced that the courses after the 3rd year BDS would be having semester wise examinations and this would be dividing the 8 subjects into 4 subjects each semester.

Going with the rule of 4+1, the 4th year would have 8 subjects –

  • Public Health Dentistry
  • Periodontology
  • Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopetic
  • Oral Medicine and Radiology
  • Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
  • Conservative and Endodontics
  • Prosthodontics
  • Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry

Note:
The concerned universities have still to decide whether to opt for the semester wise examination pattern, or else go with a complete 1 year 4th year course followed by the internship. If at all the semester wise pattern is selected, then the student who fail in the part 1 of the exam, can carry on to the next part and attempt for the 2nd part exams with the 1st part which they failed in. And the student has to pass out all the subjects before they become eligible for the Internship programme.

Here are the 2 parts –
PART I

  • Public Health Dentistry
  • Periodontology
  • Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopetic
  • Oral Medicine and Radiology

PART II

  • Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
  • Conservative and Endodontics
  • Prosthodontics
  • Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry

If at all the universities accept the semester wise plan, then that would be a good option for students so that the burden of 8 subjects goes away from their heads. It would probably be a 6-month semester, so that the subjects would be divided to 4 each in every semester and the load reduces.
