Bulimia nervosa is a condition in which those people, who are conscious about their weight, consciously eat a lot of food and then they try to reduce their weight by taking extreme weight reduction measures. A person, who is suffering from this condition, may be expected to consume more than 3000 calories in just 1 hour. After that he/she may choose to reduce his weight by attempting extreme ways like running for several miles. All this affects the body in a negative way. In this disease, a person is noticed to follow a vicious cycle of overeating and then trying to reduce weight.

Here are some of the causes for this disease. First, people who are dissatisfied from the appearance of their body and its shape begin to think about getting slim too much. Second, the self esteem of people is affected in a negative manner when they realize that others do not like the way they look. This also motivates them to do something extreme for their body. Third, Beauty oriented professions like modeling, acting etc. need people to constantly look good. Such people become obsessed with looking great.

If we talk about the symptoms of Bulimia nervosa then we should know that people who suffer from this disease tend to hide their activities related to overeating and dieting. If such people eat all the food kept in the fridge in the absence of other people, they will replace it with new food. They are guilty about exposing their reality related to the inability to control their hunger and weight. When such people buy food for themselves, they tend to go to different shops so that the shopkeepers do not suspect them for overeating.

Professional help is required for the treatment of Bulimia nervosa. Cognitive behavior therapy is done for treating this disease. First phase of the treatment includes breaking the vicious cycle of overeating and dieting. After this, doctors try to get negative thoughts and stress out of the mind of the patients. They are motivated to mix up with other people of the society and feel good about themselves.
