How to Stop Teeth Grinding

Teeth grinding is a problem in which people clench or grind their teeth unconsciously or consciously. It is considered as a dental and medical problem. It affects the tooth and the way they are fixed. A large number of people grind their teeth while sleeping. This problem is as commonly noticed in people as snoring. However, it does not cause a lot of sound like snoring. A lot of people grind their teeth for various reasons. Stress is one of the main causes behind the habit of teeth grinding.

Many problems may arise in people and children if the habit of teeth grinding is not controlled. At first, it may not sound as a very serious problem. However, after a period of time, it may cause various problems related to jaw, mouth, broken dentures etc. Following are a few ways which can help people to stop themselves from grinding their teeth. First, people who have teeth grinding habit should wear a night mask. Night mask can be obtained from the dentist. It is generally manufactured from acrylic or plastic material. It will not stop you from grinding your teeth but it will minimize the force which can cause damage to your teeth. It is important to remember wearing a night mask before sleeping for reaping its benefits.

How to Stop Teeth Grinding

Second, people should keep their lips joined but their teeth apart. One should relax his lower jaw. Teeth of lower and upper jaw should meet only when required for eating food and swallowing it. Third, studies have also proved that taking a bath with warm water before sleeping helps in relaxing the muscles of lower jaw. It helps people to get rid from the habit of teeth grinding. Fourth, people should do exercise regularly. Exercises reduce stress. Stress is the main cause of teeth grinding. Therefore, exercising regularly is important for getting rid of this problem. People who have a habit of grinding their teeth in day should put some stickers on their car’s dashboard, mobile phone, watch and other things for reminding themselves not to grind their teeth.

    It’s true that stress is a major cause of teeth grinding, but I recently had problems with teeth grinding because of some crowns that were put it. They messed up my bite so my teeth didn’t align properly. first thing I noticed was a sore jaw in the mornings. Great article on teeth grinding. thanks.
