Going with the rule of 4+1, the 4th year would have 8 subjects -

Public Health Dentistry

Periodontology

Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopetic

Oral Medicine and Radiology

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Conservative and Endodontics

Prosthodontics

Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry

Note:
The concerned universities have still to decide whether to opt for the semester wise examination pattern, or else go with a complete 1 year 4th year course followed by the internship. If at all the semester wise pattern is selected, then the student who fail in the part 1 of the exam, can carry on to the next part and attempt for the 2nd part exams with the 1st part which they failed in. And the student has to pass out all the subjects before they become eligible for the Internship programme.

Here are the 2 parts -
PART I

Public Health Dentistry

Periodontology

Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopetic

Oral Medicine and Radiology

PART II

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Conservative and Endodontics

Prosthodontics

Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry

If at all the universities accept the semester wise plan, then that would be a good option for students so that the burden of 8 subjects goes away from their heads. It would probably be a 6-month semester, so that the subjects would be divided to 4 each in every semester and the load reduces.

Reverting from the changes that were made last year about the Internship for BDS students, the Dental Council of India has again re-introduced the Internship for students from the batch of 2008-09. The changes were made for the batch 2007-08 earlier, and they have a 5+0 year course, but from the batch of 2008-09, the normal plan of 4+1 would be applied, so the 3rd students who would pass out from the exams of 2011, would be having only 1 year of education course, followed by 1 year paid Internship.

The decision on the semester or year course for the initial batch which would enter the 4th year now, is pending and the students are assuming that the 4th year course could have 8 subjects, which includes Oral Medicine & Radiology, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Pedodontics, Periodontics, Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics, Orthodontics, Prosthodontics and Community Dentistry. If this happens, it would be a burden for students to go through the 8 subjects at a go, in a single year, having no carrying on of subjects, this being the final year.
That being the case, the only batch which has seen the changes effective on them last year is the 2007-08 batch, which would be having 4 subjects each in the 4th and 5th year, and they would be passing out with no Internship in the course.

Here is the official notice seen on the DCI Website (which was removed this morning):

“BREAKING NEWS – Curriculum Reforms in Revised BDS Course Regulations, 2007 – Approval of the Govt. of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare -
All the concerned authorities are hereby informed that on the recommendations of the Dental Council of India, the Govt. of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare vide its letter No. V.12012/3/2006-DE dated 24.08.2011 have conveyed its approval on DCI Revised BDS Course (3rd Amendment) Regulations, 2011 to re-introduce the 4+1 year rotational compulsory paid internship in BDS Course w.e.f. the academic year 2011-12 i.e. from the batches admitted during the year 2008-09. The aforesaid amendment is being published in the Official Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part-III, Section 4 in due course of time and after duly notified it shall come into force from the date of its publication. The said notification shall be placed in the DCI website also.
Secretary, Dental Council of India”

The Internship according to the new rules, is going to be a paid Internship for the span of 1 year. We would update the students whether the next 2 years for 2008-09 batch would have a single curriculum year, or semester wise courses, once DCI updates the circular.

2 hours – Lemme go mathematically! 2 hours = 120 minutes = 7200 seconds daily! Now think for once, whenever you smile do you realize that someone around you is smiling for that fact that you are smiling, or for the fact that you are happy, or at least for the fact that they want you to carry the smile for few more moments and so their face has a wide smile carried. But in the end, you are making them feel better for that small part of time.

Now, thanks to Surf Excel, certainly my 2 hours per day are saved, and I won’t spend them sleeping, or playing games, or reading books.. as god has given me 22 hours already in which I have all of that planned. The extra 2 hours, would be a few little plans where I would try to make people happy, make them smile by one or the other way, and this all would make me feel a lot happier. Even if someone smiles or laughs for at least 10 minutes out of those 2 hours, it would be the day made for me already!

So here is how I would try to make people around me smile, spending those 2 hours that the Surf Excel advantage gives me -

Charity, spending time with orphans – I hope this doesn’t sound weird for anyone reading this, but I really get happy when I see the faces of poor children, orphans, abandoned girls smiling after they receive any unexpected gifts from someone they don’t know. I did this a few times, and believe me, it isn’t more satisfying being there and doing such things and making those children happy. I run a campaign online, named 10 Rupee A Day, which is recently launched, and once I get some good donations in it, I would spend couple hours daily trying to visit some orphan homes or charity homes where I can see the children happy accepting what I would give them (I usually provide them with some study material, or chocolates, or fruits etc. stuff), and even if that can’t happen daily, I would go at least couple times or thrice a week, and read my words, these would be the 2 best hours spent on that day.

Thing I have not got time to do – Call my old friends, whom I have not been in touch with, since years. Thanks to the daily busy schedule, I have not talked to my school buddies who keep messaging me on the social networks about my ignorance. Am sure my sudden call would surprise them, and hope, the other end they are smiling while we spend the couple hours talking and remembering our past.

Go in advance, finish stuff for near future – One of the best planned things to do, would be completing the stuff which is lined up for the near future for the next few days (if at all you work on something that has weekly or monthly plans or goals to complete), and once I keep doing that daily, there is an ample about of time in the end of the month, which I could use to plan a tour or trip with my family or friends (or both together? )

Would have made a lot of difference if that 2 was 24, and we got 48 hours in a day, but alas, we need to do the best out of what we get. And these couple hours are the ones which we had never expected we would be getting, removing the need of soaking, washing, rinsing and drying off those clothes (which obviously not me but my Mom does!).

This is my entry towards the Indiblogger’s Surf Excel Matic Get Smart Contest, check it out here.

The Crest Pro-Health Clinical Gum Protection toothpaste comes in a Invigorating Clean Mint flavor, and is the one that helps in the protection of the gums from the infections that lead to the bleeding of gums while you brush your teeth or chew any food. The toothpaste not only gives the protection for the gums, but also gives an invigorating effect to the teeth and gums, where the actual strengthening of the gums occurs. The toothpaste is known to reverse the gingivitis within 4 weeks of the usage in a proper way of tooth brushing.

Gingivitis is one of the most common conditions in adults and it has many causes, one of them being the poor health of gums prone to any kind of infections. The toothpaste helps in 6 ways in total -

Helps in prevention of the Dental caries

Helps in prevention of Gingivitis

Interferes with the effects caused by the plaque on the tooth surface

Helps remove the bacteria that causes plaque and caries

Reducing sensitivity of teeth against cold, hot food and drinks

Helps in whitening of the teeth

Fluoride being one of its strongest ingredients, the occurrence of Dental caries is surely decreased. The toothpaste is quite stronger when compared to the other toothpastes by Crest, so it should be used with a caution that it should not be kept near to children, and people under the age of 12 should not use it. Also, if the sensitivity is not more than 4 weeks old, then this toothpaste is advisable. Though we would suggest to go for a better treatment with a dentist apart from the usage of this toothpaste. The main aim of the toothpaste is protection and strengthening of the gums, which indirectly reduces the gum receding and so the root exposure is reduced, thus sensitivity gets lesser.

The best usage of the Crest Pro-health Clinical Gum Protection Toothpaste is along with a soft bristled tooth brush. The brushing should be done at least twice a day with at least 1 minute of brushing each time. Children under the age of 12 years should visit a dentist and consult whether to use the paste. The toothpaste is available at Amazon (Product Page) at a price of $14 for a pack of 2 of each one being 5.4 ounces, or the 4-ounce each would cost $10 for the pack of 2 toothpastes. The flavor that it comes with is the Clean Mint flavor, which gives a good and fresh breath for a few hours after brushing.

A few reviews of the Crest Pro-Health Clinical Gum Protection Toothpaste -

Oz VC – First I hated to see reviews where it said that the paste leaked from the flip cap, but the customer care of Crest said that I could use it as Screw cap. When I bought it, I could used it as a screw lid which prevented the leaking. Thanks for such a wonderful toothpaste.

Twincy – The taste of it is very refreshing, and I liked it a lot. I don’t like the cap of its, but thats not the thing i would think about when it is giving me some good advantage for my teeth and gums.

Since bad and spotted teeth leaves as awful impression of their overall personality, a lot of people seem to be really sensitive about their teeth. Rotten teeth not only are a physical brunt on the oral health of a person but even psychologically and drastically impact their personality as well.

The teeth whitening products which are abundantly available in the markets today are mostly sold with a dentist’s prescription. To make people believe that a product might provide magical results for teeth shine different kinds of claims are therefore made by a lot of companies behind such products. You might also be promised that the products have zero side effects and would not internally damage your teeth if used for a long term.

It is important that any impostor company is crossed out from your list to ensure that you are able to find the best teeth whitening product. To proclaim their product as the best many companies will exaggerate or lie and you can easily determine this.

Consulting a proper dentist is the best thing you can do if you are having doubts about a teeth whitening product. If you have been regularly treated by a family dentist and he knows more about you, so discussing with him about any potential teeth whitening product would be ideal. Since different attributes are carried within every person and each of us would have a different reaction to a variety of products or treatments, this means that a single formula can never fit everyone. Be sure to do proper research before buying any teeth whitening product.

You can finally begin selecting the right teeth shining product that would fit your requirements once you have consulted with a dentist. There are also various factors you need to keep in mind. In order to filter out the products which you would not be able to afford, it is important to set a specific budget. Also consider the condition of your teeth and how fast they would need to be fixed. Normal home remedies can also be used if you are not in a hurry to treat your teeth. Treatment like bleaching can be highly suitable if you need rapid dental improvements. These products can indeed be beneficial but they can also have side effects too, so be aware of the reputation of the product you intend to use. By searching about a dental product online you can easily find out what is being said about it b experts and other people.

Read my earlier articles on the best teeth whitening method, and the benefits of teeth whitening and the dangers of teeth whitening.

Pulp Polyp, also called as Chronic Hyperplastic Pulpitis, or Proliferative pulpitis is a productive pulpal inflammation due to extensive carious exposure of any young pulpal tissue. This is a type of irreversible pulpitis, which is chronic and usually asymptomatic in nature.
It is characterized by development of granulation tissue, covered by epithelium and it results from irritation for a long time.

Causes of Pulp Polyp

Dental caries in young tooth where significant loss of tooth is seen.

Fractured tooth, causing trauma to the pulpal tissues.

Mechanical irritation from chewing, and bacterial irritation provides stimulus.

Symptoms of Pulp Polyp

They are asymptomatic, and sometimes the masticatory stress can lead to some tenderness.

Sometimes, localized bleeding may occur.

The polyps cover the entire cavity by enlarging itself.

Diagnosis

Appearance of Polypoid tissue – A fleshy, reddish mass fills most of the pulp chamber or extends beyond the tooth structure.

Polypoid tissue is less responsive when compared to normal pulp tissue.

Radiographs show a large, open cavity with direct access to the pulp chamber.

Response is seen on electric pulp testing too.

Treatment

Removal of the polypoid tissue, followed by the extirpation of the pulp. When the pulpal mass is removed, bleeding can be controlled by application of pressure. Formocresol dressing is placed after the entire pulp is removed.

Pulpotomy in simple terms is the removal of the pulp of a tooth. Pulpotomy is also referred to as Partial Coronal Pulpectomy. Pulp is the center part of the tooth which is mad up of cells and living soft tissue. So Pulpotomy is done when the pulp is either affected or infected. The affected part of the pulp (coronal portion) is removed so that the remaining part continues to function normally.

This procedure becomes necessary when the tooth decay penetrates the enamel (crown of the tooth) and goes to the other layer of the tooth which is called the dentin. When the decay reaches the pulp it spreads through out the nerves which are still alive thus causing a lot of discomfort and pain to the person. Pulpotomy can also be done when one is injured or suffers some form of trauma and the pulp is exposed. When Pulpotomy is done well it relieves the pain being experienced, reduces the sensitivity of the tooth and also rescues the surrounding tissues around the tooth from a complete break down.

Pulpotomy can not be performed on a loose tooth or when there is swelling around the tooth. The dentist determines if he will do the Pulpotomy when he examines the tooth and finds that the decay or the injury on the tooth is not that severe and the nerves in the root of the tooth can still be rescued from death.

If one is to undergo Pulpotomy they have to take X-ray pictures so that the position of the tooth is determined, and the infections on the tooth are identified. Pulpotomy is done when a person/ the patient is sedated so that the patient can be calm through the whole procedure. The area near the tooth being worked on is totally numbed.

When the procedure is being conducted on a decayed tooth, the decay is first removed. After removing the decay the affected pulp is then removed and the area is then sealed with medicine. Mostly the medicine used is formocresol. This medicine has a mummifying effect on the remaining pulp and also is used to sterilize the inside of the tooth the procedure is being conducted on. Once the tooth has been medicated, after a few minutes its time to close it up and this is done by using a temporal filling. If the procedure is being conducted on a child then the dentist places a steel crown on the tooth but if being performed on an adult then the dentist places a porcelain crown.

Pulpotomy is very successful although in minor cases the medicines used during the procedure can cause irritation to the tissues outside the viable pulp which will in turn give a burning effect to the area around the tooth. If the nerves in the tooth are affected then it will mean that whole procedure was a fail because the aim of Pulpotomy is to salvage the pulp which is not affected yet to avoid the death of the nerves.

What an entertaining match.. what a beautiful and terrifying performance by both the teams. I am talking about the match between India and Pakistan in the 1st round matches of twenty20 world cup. India had scored 141 in the alloted 20 overs losing 9 of their wickets, and this score actually is not a big score to chase for pakistan.

They did really well and till the end tensions were in mind whether who would win the match, and the last over i had my heart in mouth where Pakistan needed 12 runs and Sreesanth was bowling. The last ball requiring a run to win, they could not make it and batsman was run out. Indians ran in joy that they could atleast draw the match which wasnt in their hands.

Then came the deciding thing – Bowl out round to decide the actual winner, in which 5 bowlers from each team have to bowl to blow off the wickets and there are no batsmen. Indians first 3 bowlers Sehwag, Harbhajan and Uthappa did it and all the first 3 of Pakistan missed it, and that’s it India Wins! All of the ground filled with running happy Indians. Go INDIA Go!
