Earlier I had written about the Inferior alveolar nerve block, which is the method of anesthesia for performing any dental procedures in the mandibular teeth.
The inferior alveolar nerve block is the most common anesthetic procedure for any local injection, as it is helpful in providing anesthesia to many mandibular teeth and if accompanied with the buccal nerve block in the same injection, the buccal gingiva and vestibule areas are also anesthetized.

Here is a video demonstration of what the block is all required for, where is the site of injection and which tissues are penetrated when an inferior alveolar nerve block (inferior dental nerve block) is given.

Cosmetic dentistry is practiced by cosmetic dentists. Cosmetic dentist work differently from regular dentists because their work involves applying veneers, bridges and crowns, to help people to enhance their appearance. Teeth that have become discolored due to stains and decay, teeth which is fractured, broken or chipped off are all treated by cosmetic dentists.

There are many procedures involved in cosmetic dentistry. The procedures undertaken by the dentist will depend on the problem in the teeth. Here is a look at each of these procedures and why they are used:

Bonding – In this procedure, enamel similar to the color of the person’s tooth is attached to it. This procedure helps to change teeth color, shape and size. If a person’s teeth happen to be broken or chipped, bonding procedure helps to give them a normal shape.

Porcelain veneers – In this process, porcelain teeth that are similar to natural teeth are created in the dentist’s office. They are then bonded with natural teeth to bring out a better teeth look. The bonding of porcelain veneers to the teeth can be done physically or using a paste or cement. This form of treatment is expensive compared to bonding.

Periodontics – This is a form of treatment given to people whose smile shows a lot of their gums. This can be very embarrassing and it impairs appearance as well. They work on the person’s teeth and so as to improve it in order to make the smiles come off more natural.

Dental Implants – In this form of treatment, anchors are placed in the jaw bone of a person whose teeth is missing and through the artificial roots can be used for building a single teeth or entire tooth replacements as required for the person.

Whatever is the kind of cosmetic dentistry procedure given to enhance the appearance of your teeth, make sure that you understand about it in complete detail before you begin your treatment. If you experience discomfort or pain, inform you dentist on the same so that they can suggest alterative. Ensure to take treatment from a reputable cosmetic dentist for the best effect.

Bad breath or halitosis is a very embarrassing problem. Bacteria live in your mouth and when you eat food, the bacteria acts on this food. In this process some oral bacteria produces waster products which are sulfur compounds that cause bad breath.

This problem can be difficult and embarrassing not just for the sufferer but also for the people around them. If you happen to be in a job where you have to speak a lot, the problem of bad breath becomes highlighted. Here are some tips on how you can prevent bad breath from arising:

* Brush regularly as this will remove food particles stuck in your teeth ridges. Such particles interact with saliva and cause bad breath. Take to brushing twice a day and flossing once a day.

* Change your diet to a well balanced mix of protein, carbohydrates and fats. You need to take in more of fruits and veggies. Drinking plenty of water to keep your digestive tract lean and reduce the problem of bad breath.

* Chewing on herbs coriander, spearmint, tarragon, eucalyptus, rosemary and cardamom helps to fight off bad odor. You can also put all these herbs together into hot water, make a tea and have them this way. These herbs make good digestives.

* Regularly have yogurt that includes active cultures. Ensure that the yoghurt t you select is not overly processed or sugar-added ones.

* Take in foods that are rich in Vitamin C. Fruits such as berries, citrus fruits, melons will not allow bacteria to grow. They help to prevent gum disease and gingivitis, both of which can cause halitosis.

* Use sugarless mint and gum as this raises saliva production in the mouth which rinses of plaque and bacteria.

* Avoid alcohol as these can result in bad breath.

* Using mouthwash that has chlorine dioxide can help fight off bad breath

* Use a tongue cleaner to clean your tongue and remove mucus and proteins. Doing this will freshen your breath.

* Visit the dentist and check for problem such as gingivitis, plaque or decayed tooth as such problems are a major source of bad breath. Take to cleaning your teeth with the dentist regularly.

It is a band of epithelium that has invaded the underlying ectomesenchyme along each of the horse shoe shaped dental arches. Dental lamina serve as primordium for deciduous teeth. It is the first formed part during the tooth development.

2-3 weeks after the rupture of the bucopharyngeal membrane, age of embryo being 6 weeks old, certain basal cells proliferate more rapidly and this leads to the formation of the dental lamina.
Permanent molars arise from the distal extension of the dental lamina.

The 1st permanent molar is initiated at 4th month in the utero.
The 2nd permanent molar is initiated at about 1st year after birth.
The 3rd permanent molar is initiated at about 4th-5th year after birth.
The successors of the deciduous teeth develop from a lingual extension of free end of dental lamina opposite to enamel organ of each deciduous tooth.
This lingual extension is called as Successional lamina and develops from 5th month in utero to 10th month of age.

Fate – DL’s total activity is about 5 years.
After it has disappeared everywhere, it still is present in the region of 3rd molar.
As the teeth continue to develop, they lose the connection with the dental lamina.
Remnants of dental lamina persist as epithelial pearls or islands within the jaw as well as in the gingiva.

Now let us see what you mean by the term prognathism & something more about that. The word prognathism is derived from the Greek word pro, which means forward, & another word gnathos, which means jaw. This is a term which used to describe the positions of the mandible & maxilla & their relations to the skeletal base where either of the jaws is protruding out. In dentistry, this is assessed either clinically or radio-graphically in oral & maxillofacial surgery, & orthodontics.

Cephalometric analysis is the most accurate way of determining all the various types of prognathism as it includes the assessments of the skeletal base, the facial height, assessment of the soft tissue & the anterior dental angulations. In Maxillary prognathism it is the maxilla that protrudes, affecting the middle part of the face & is also a common feature seen in many people world over. Whereas in Mandibular prognathism, it is the mandible that protrudes which this affects the lower part of the face.

In Alveolar prognathism, the portion of the maxilla where the teeth are located is the part which protrudes, in the dental lining of the upper jaw. Prognathism can also be used to describe ways that the maxillary and mandibular dental arches can relate to one another. When there is either maxillary or alveolar prognathism or both, which causes an alignment of the maxillary incisors considerably front of the lower teeth, the condition is called an overbite, & when the reverse is the case, the condition is referred to as an under-bite.

Pain is the most common sign of any medical problem & to prevent that most of the time anesthesia may be regarded as a basis in the development of modern medical science. Dental pain or a toothache is one of the worst things anyone can experience.

There have been a lot of development of modern equipment & technical skills, & if there is just any one thing that most of the dentists have not been able to control, is the pain that presents itself in a many ways. In fact the nerve in the tooth, which is also called a pulp, has fibers that can transmit only the pain as a response to any kind of stimulus. Some people get very much scared visit a dentist, while some others do not. So here is where the anesthesia helps.

The use of local anesthesia for dental care is very much high world over, but it has certain risks which you may want to avoid. For most of the patients, local anesthesia is the choice to avoid even the sensation of the dental drill. The following choices may be considered & you can seek out the help of dentists who offer certain other alternatives to the usual nerve block with local anesthetics, for many reasons.

The standard inferior alveolar nerve block carries the risk of a permanent damage of the nerve to the inferior alveolar nerve, which could be prevented by some of the above following options. So this is all about dental anesthesia.

The modern dentist has an increasingly sophisticated arsenal available to aid patients in fighting tooth decay. One member of this arsenal, the dental sealant, has been available for 25 years continually undergoing refinements.

Due to the nature of the molars, intrinsically having numerous fissures and microscopic cups, they are far more difficult to clean and more susceptible to decay. And although increased widepsread public health measures to help combat decay such as fluoridation and vastly improved dental hygeine methods, molar decay remains a consistent threat to healthy teeth. Dental sealants were developed in the 1960s and 1970s to help combat this susceptibility.

Dental sealants are used to cover and close the small fissures and cups that harbour plaque and eventually decay. The application is usually performed by a dentist and involves painting a uniform layer of resinous plastic sealant on to the teeth. The compound used is very similar to that used to create “white” plastic fillings.

The plastic compound is then set by focusing blue spectrum natural light on it. Once cured, the plastic sealants form a thin, smooth, highly durable layer over the treated regions. Since the molar’s surface has been smoothed out, regular brushing becomes far more effective at removing plaque.

In spite of near continual use, and the many high stresses and strains applied to teeth through biting and chewing, the cured seal can last for upward of 5 years but should be inspected regularly for damage. In the event of damage to the sealant, a new layer of sealant can be applied over the corrupt areas.

Despite dental sealants being close to 100% effective in preventing decay in molars and it being an only moderately expensive treatment, it is estimated that fewer than 25% of the population have dental sealants.

Cosmetic dentistry, relates to modifying the oral cavity and surround structures. Cosmetic dentistry can modify and reshape. The area around your mouth. Whether this be for visual pleasure, or a health problem. It is often used, with cosmetic surgery. In which is to believe, this is plastic surgery for the mouth.

Cosmetic dentistry, can be closely related to plastic surgery. Many people, do lip injections and dental work. Lip injections, could be making the lips smaller. Re-forming them, and or making them a bit bigger. Bonding is another cosmetic dentistry. Bonding is repairing, and shaping broken or chipped teeth. Dental implants, are another huge cosmetic feature. Sometimes, you lose your teeth, it happens. But there is something you can do about this. Dental implants, are fake teeth, rooted inside your gum.

Believe it or not. With out teeth, your face begins to sag. Showing age, and age lines. Dental implants will help you there. Tooth whitening is another good area. Do you have huge smile? Maybe you do. But with that smile, how white are your teeth? It’s embarrassing not to have white crisp teeth. Who wants to stare at yellow teeth? Who wants to kiss that? Cosmetic dentistry, has made a break through with this. Teeth whitening, isn’t only for the rich and famous. The average joe can do this. You don’t even have to go to the dentist. Look at your local shopping center, for tooth whiteners.

Dental veneers, are used for chip or broken teeth. Using plastic or porcelain laminates, to bond to your teeth. Will make the chips, and edges disappear. They are also, heavily used. When some one has a big gap. Between there teeth. These will keep your smile, up and about for ages. If you are looking for some of these products. Ask your dentist, and research more on cosmetic dentistry. To learn how it can benefit you and your smile.

Impacted teeth occur either because the path for their emergence is blocked, or because they have formed in the wrong position in the mouth. The eruption of teeth into mouth is not fully understood, but it is probably the result of rapid multiplication of the cells which from the tooth root, the pressure of which thrust the tooth through the overlying bone.

In cases of impaction, the problem is not usually one of failure within the developing tooth itself, but either of its position or of its relation to the other teeth nearby. Where there is crowding, that is, inadequate space in the mouth for all the teeth, the last teeth to erupt often have insufficient room, because the space available has all been taken by the teeth which have already emerged. Under these circumstances, the later erupting teeth may grow through, but out of line, or alternatively, they may be unable to emerge fully. When a tooth fails to erupt, either fully or partially, it is described as being impacted.

The cause of the crowding which leads to most impactions is not really understood, but it may arise as the result of the individual inheriting large teeth from one parent and small jaws from the other. It has also been suggested that there may be an evolutionary process in progress leading to a reduction in the size of the human jaw.

Sometimes, teeth are impacted as the result of their being formed in the in the wrong position. For example, upper canine teeth are sometimes too deeply placed, so that when they begin to erupt, they grow towards the alveolar bone [bordering the gum]. It is then not usually possible for them to erupt.

Impactions are comparatively uncommon in the milk teeth [called the deciduous dentition] because, as they are small, crowding is usually less. It is possible for any permanent tooth to become impacted, but impaction due to overcrowding most often affects wisdom teeth, the third molar, canines and premolars [situated in front of molar]. Impactions which are due to tooth development in incorrect positions affect upper canines more commonly than other teeth, and the problem often runs in families, showing that it inherited.
